Utilizing a floor tile leveling system when installing a tile floor is a foolproof way to ensure your final product is installed appropriately.
A tile leveling system guarantees that the tile is set without any lippage – meaning there will not be any differences in elevation between the edges of each piece of adjacent tile. Lippage is not only unpleasant to look at and a sign of a poorly installed floor – but it can be a trip hazard.
Adding a tile leveling system to your process may slow you down at first, but knowing the finished product will be perfect is well worth the slight bit of extra effort. Plus, once you get the hang of using a system – you’ll be installing perfect tile floors in no time flat!
Spin Doctor Tile Leveling System
At Tile Pro Depot, we carry and highly recommend the Spin Doctor tile leveling system. It is the most user friendly and cost-effective tile leveling system on the market.
This particular system utilizes reusable caps and posts, which is an excellent bonus for tile installers looking to get the most bang for their buck. The Spin Doctor leveler has a patented free spin design that gives installers the ability to tighten down the cap with one hand, which does not require any additional tools. The posts can also double as spacers, truly making the Spin Doctor system one well worth the purchase.
This system is available in a variety of sizes, colors, and quantities, including 1/16th inch white threaded posts, 1/8th inch black threaded posts, and anti-friction clear shields that protect the surface of softer tile.
When installing tile with this system, simply spin the caps down on the threaded posts by hand, clockwise. Stop spinning once the caps are resting firmly against the tile. This system should be installed while the thinset is still wet to allow the tile edges to move flush against each other. There are openings in the cap that allow you to see when the tiles are flush, and the caps can be unscrewed if tiles need to be realigned. Once the thinset is cured, simply unscrew the caps and break the posts – they break off from the post base under the tile.
At Tile Pro Depot, we not only carry the Spin Doctor tile leveling system, but also carry the MLT and DTA systems. These differ slightly from the Spin Doctor – for key differences view our blog post – but in general they all garner the same result, a level tile floor.
