Guide on Laticrete Glass Tile Adhesive – pros/cons and more

Are you looking for an appropriate glass tile adhesive mortar? With so many available options in the market, it is challenging to choose the suitable one. When seeking one mortar adhesive compatible with wet and dry surfaces, you must make a smart choice. Ask for Laticrete Glass Tile AdhesiveIt is a high-performing, lightweight polymer for glass tiles.

The product is non-sag and is also perfect for submerged usage. It is an exclusive choice for glass tile applications as the adhesive contains zero respirable crystalline silica. The product comes in paste form, is in ultra-white color, non-sanded with smooth easy-to-trowel consistency. So, just scoop it out, mix it with any desired color and start applying.

Limitations of adhesive glass

Avoid using Laticrete Glass Tile Adhesive directly on hardwood floorings, particleboard, interior glue plywood, and luan Masonite.

Remember that adhesives, mortars, and grouts for ceramic tiles, pavers, and brick/stone are not alternatives to waterproofing methods.

Notes to remember

Ensure that the surfaces are stable and structurally strong to support ceramic, glass, stone tile, thin brick, or similar surface options. Never exceed the substrate installation more than L/360 for a thin-bed ceramic tile/brick and L/480 for a thin-bed stone, under all live, dead, and impact loading concentrations.

Application method

Start by mixing the glass tile adhesive with plain water. Use hands instead of any trowel or ladle. Let the mix slake for a few minutes, and remix without adding any more water or powder. It helps in fluffing the consistency and eases the application process.

Use the flat side of the trowel and apply the mortar to the substrate by firmly pressing it onto the surface. Continuously comb the additional mortar using the notched side of the trowel. Ensure that you back butter the tile before installing it to provide full bedding support. It will also assist in firmly placing the tiles and prevent mortar ribbons from showing through the transparent/translucent glass tile.

Now place the tiles one after the other onto the wet, sticky mortar and beat it gently using the block and rubber mallet. It will ensure that each tile embeds in the surface and adjusts to the level.

Make intermittent checks to ensure that the mortar completely covers each tile by removing one tile and inspecting the bedding mortar transfer onto the tile back. The exercise is crucial because if you notice that the mortar is not enough, you must remove it and replace it with fresh mortar for proper installation.
