Protect your hard surface flooring installations with the LATICRETE® Sound & Crack Isolation Mat. Engineered for both high-performance sound dampening and superior crack isolation, this advanced underlayment is designed to withstand the rigors of commercial and residential environments. Whether you are installing ceramic tile, stone, or high-end luxury vinyl, this mat provides a critical barrier that reduces impact sound and protects your finished floor from structural movement.

  • Superior Sound Control: Significantly reduces Delta IIC impact sound transmission, ideal for multi-story residential and commercial spaces.
  • Advanced Crack Isolation: Effectively bridges cracks in subfloors up to 1/8″ (3 mm) without transferring them to the finished floor.
  • Versatile Compatibility: Suitable for use with ceramic tile, stone, brick, pavers, and various hard surface flooring.
  • Durable & Resilient: Engineered to maintain performance under heavy traffic and load-bearing conditions.
  • Easy Installation: Lightweight mat design ensures quick, efficient layout for reduced labor time.
  • Thin Profile: Minimizes floor height build-up, perfect for renovation projects where threshold clearance is critical.
  • Moisture Resistance: Resistant to moisture, ensuring long-term integrity in damp-prone areas.

Installing the LATICRETE® Sound & Crack Isolation Mat requires careful surface preparation and precise application to ensure optimal acoustic and anti-fracture performance.

  1. Preparation
  • Substrate Check: Ensure your substrate (concrete or approved plywood) is clean, dry, structurally sound, and free of oil, grease, or curing compounds.
  • Temperature: Ensure surfaces are between 40°F (4°C) and 90°F (32°C).
  • Perimeter Isolation: Before installing the mat, install a perimeter isolation strip along the walls and around any protrusions (pipes, columns) to break the vibration path. Alternatively, you can run the mat 3″ (75 mm) up the wall.
  1. Installing the Mat
  1. Adhesive Application: Use a polymer-fortified, multipurpose thin-set adhesive (such as LATICRETE 254 Platinum).
  2. Troweling: Use a 1/4″ x 1/4″ (6 mm x 6 mm) notched trowel to comb the thin-set over the substrate. Only apply as much adhesive as you can cover within 25 minutes.
  3. Placement: Unroll the mat into the wet thin-set adhesive.
  4. Butt Joints: Do not overlap the edges of the mat. Ensure the edges of each piece butt firmly together.
  5. Rolling: Immediately use a 25–45 lbs (11.3–20 kg) roller to embed the mat firmly into the mortar to ensure full contact and remove air pockets.
  6. Curing: Allow the mat to cure for at least 24 hours at 70°F (21°C) before proceeding.
  1. Final Flooring Installation
  • Once fully cured, you can install your ceramic tile, porcelain, or stone finish directly over the mat using the same type of polymer-fortified, multipurpose thin-set adhesive.
  • Note: The minimum tile size allowed over this mat is 4″ x 4″ (102 x 102 mm).

Important Limitations:

  • Do not bond to particle board, OSB, luan, Masonite®, or hardwood surfaces.
  • Not for use over expansion joints or structural movement cracks.
  • This mat is not a waterproofing membrane; use a dedicated LATICRETE waterproofing system if moisture protection is required.
