SPECTRALOCK 1 is formulated for grout joints from 1/16 inch to 3/8 inch (approximately 2 to 9 mm). The non-sag consistency helps keep joints full on both walls and floors, and the finished grout does not require sealing. Built-in antimicrobial product protection helps inhibit the growth of mold and mildew on the grout surface.

Before You Choose This Grout

SPECTRALOCK 1 is not a waterproofing membrane and should not be used as a substitute for one where waterproofing is required. It is also not intended for areas exposed to harsh chemicals, aggressive cleaning regimens, high temperatures, or commercial kitchen floor and base areas where an industrial-grade chemical-resistant grout may be required.

Test the grout before full installation on soft polished marble, porous light-colored stone, delicate glazed tile, some glass tile, mixed-media tile, or metal tile. The grout may scratch or affect the appearance of certain sensitive surfaces.

Coverage Guidance

Actual coverage depends on tile size, tile thickness, grout-joint width, and installation conditions. Larger tile with narrow joints uses less grout; mosaics and wider joints use more.

Before Grouting

  1. Remove tile spacers, loose mortar, dust, and debris from the grout joints. Wipe the tile with a damp sponge, but do not leave standing water in the joints.
  2. Allow cleaned surfaces to dry. The tile and installation surface should be between 50°F and 90°F (10°C to 32°C) during application.
  3. For porous, rough, textured, unglazed, or sensitive tile and stone, make a small test area first. A suitable grout release or sealer may make cleanup easier on some surfaces.

Apply the Grout

  1. Open the pail and use the product as supplied. Do not add water or other materials to the grout.
  2. Using a sharp-edged, firm rubber grout float, work the grout diagonally across the tile and pack the joints completely full.
  3. Hold the float at roughly a 90-degree angle and scrape diagonally across the tile to remove excess grout without pulling material from the joints.

Initial Cleaning

  1. Begin cleaning about 5 to 10 minutes after spreading the grout, adjusting for temperature and site conditions. Work in manageable areas so grout is not left on the tile too long.
  2. Use a clean sponge that is damp rather than dripping wet. With light circular motions, loosen residue while keeping the joints smooth and full.
  3. Make a final diagonal pass with a clean side of the sponge. Rinse often and change the wash water regularly. LATICRETE recommends changing wash water about every 50 sq. ft. of cleaned area.

Final Cleaning and Cure

  1. When the joints are firm to the touch, perform the final cleaning. Narrow joints may be ready at about 45 minutes; wider joints may need closer to one hour, depending on temperature and jobsite conditions.
  2. Use clean water and a nearly dry white nylon scrub pad to loosen remaining haze, then wipe the surface clean with a fresh cloth or microfiber towel.
  3. Protect finished grout from traffic for at least 24 hours at 70°F (21°C). For areas that will receive intermittent water exposure, allow at least 24 hours of cure at 70°F and 50% relative humidity.
  4. For steam rooms or submerged installations such as pools and fountains, allow a minimum 14-day cure at 70°F (21°C) before use or filling with water.
