The Best Method to Seal Concrete Flooring

When you’re in the tiling business, you’ll often find yourself wearing many hats to fulfill the needs of your customers – so it wouldn’t be out of the norm to find yourself working with concrete.

Concrete is known for being incredibly strong and durable. That’s why it is used in a variety of applications, however not everyone realizes that concrete still needs protection otherwise it can falter. If you’re looking for the best method to seal concrete flooring, we highly recommend to see these methods.

Concrete Floor Sealer

When it comes to concrete sealers, there are many different types. If you’re looking to enhance color, add a high shine, or have a matte finish on decorative concrete work, acrylic sealers are good choices. For concrete that is more high traffic or has a chemical risk, epoxies, urethanes, or polyaspartics are most often used.

If you’re looking for the best method to seal concrete flooring, we highly recommend a penetrating concrete sealer. These sealers chemically react to densify the concrete’s strength and create a hydrophobic barrier that prevents the transmission of vapor and moisture.

At Tile Pro Depot, we carry one of the best penetrating concrete sealers on the market – the FILAMP90 Eco Plus sealer. It is an excellent sealer and stain protector for polished porcelain, ceramic tile, polished natural stone, and agglomerates including concrete. It is non-film forming, so it won’t alter the color of the surface being sealed.

This sealer is excellent for counters, tables, and window sills, and is certified as food safe so it can be used in food prep areas. Fila MP90 comes ready to use, no need to dilute making installation quick and easy.

When applying to natural stones and agglomerates, decorated concrete tiles, and manufactured stones and aiming for a matte finish, apply with a paintbrush or lamb’s wool applicator pad. Fully saturate the surface and remove excess product that hasn’t been absorbed by wiping with a dry cloth, lamb’s wool pad, or sponge.

When applying to natural stones and agglomerates, decorated concrete tiles, and manufactured stones and aiming for a polished finish, apply evenly with a paintbrush or lamb’s wool pad. For natural stone, wipe off excess product after ten minutes, and for polished porcelain or compact marble wipe off after four hours. Waiting four hours will allow the product to penetrate fully and allow for a beautiful, high-shine finish while also adding strength.
