Installing Permacolor Grout

The first thing to note about Laticrete Permacolor grout is that it’s a cost-effective, time-saving, and reduced-waste product. Because it only needs water mixture, the additive requirement that most grouts need is eliminated, saving you time and money when installing and grouting tile. Furthermore, it is simply a universal base grout, allowing tile installation experts to add small color packets to achieve the right shade of grout. This eliminates the need to store and stock a large variety of pre-colored grout, potentially wasting opened bags.

Use the same Laticrete Permacolor grout for multiple installations and pair it a Color Kit in whichever color additive the client chooses.

Here’s how to use Laticrete Permacolor grout, step-by-step.

Step One: Mixing

Correctly mixing the Laticrete Permacolor Select is important in achieving an optimal consistency for applying it to the space between tiles.

In a clean mixing container, use the recommended amount of clean water indicated for the 12-and-a-half-pound bag or 25-pound bag of the Laticrete Permacolor Select. When adding the Laticrete Color Kit to the neutral base, place the entire packet—plastic and all—into the clean water before the grout base. The packet will dissolve in under a minute and adding it before the base helps you produce a consistent color throughout the grout.

Use a low-RPM mixer to mix the grout for a few minutes. Then stop mixing and allow the grout mixture to sit and slake. This will allow the Laticrete Permacolor Select to hydrate and extend the pot life of the material.

Step Two: Grouting

Remove the tile spacers that you placed to ensure equidistant space between the tiles and wipe the tile surface with a damp sponge to remove dirt and debris that accumulated during the tile installation. Be sure to not use too much water when cleaning the surface of the tile.

With a firm rubber grout float, spread the Laticrete Permacolor Select grout across the tile, making sure that the grout lines are filled evenly and completely. Take care to not drag the grout when spreading across the tile and lines. Then use the edge of the grout float to essentially scrape off the excess grout from the surface.

Step Three: Cleaning

Allow about 20 minutes of rest for the grout to set firmly in the lines and dry on the face of the tile. Then it is ready to wash the grout from the surface of the tile.

With a fresh and clean pail of water and a clean grout sponge, damp the sponge with the water and begin wiping the grout from the surface of the tile. The Laticrete Permacolor Select grout should appear to be set firmly and fully in the space between tiles. Rinse the sponge often and be sure to not accidentally pull grout from between the lines.

Any leftover haze after a couple of washes should be cleaned with a grout haze remover product.
