After carefully and methodically completing a tile installation, you want your hard work to last for years. Unfortunately, not every client will know how to care for their tile once your job is complete, and your work can quickly be ruined.
To ensure your customers enjoy your handiwork for many, many years, we advise informing your clients of best care practices. Below are basic maintenance tips.
Tile Care Products and Cleaning Methods at Tile Pro Depot
Before using any type of solution to clean tile, remove all dust and debris from the surface. Sweep with a soft broom or vacuum floors, and wipe down walls or other surfaces with a damp cloth.
Once a week, customers can damp-mop their tile floors to decrease wear and abrasion from grit, soil, or other debris and wipe dry with a soft cloth. Tile walls and backsplashes can also be cleaned weekly or as needed with gentle cleansers that do not contain acid or bleach. These harsh chemicals can damage tile and grout over time.
Stiff and unforgiving cleaning tools like steel wool or scouring pads should never be used on tile, as they can scratch and damage the tile’s surface. Advise your clients to always test out their cleaning agents (even if they say they’re tile safe) in an inconspicuous area first to ensure the product won’t cause damage.
When dealing with rust or oil stains, we recommend FilaNO RUST Stain Remover and FilaNOSPOT Oil & Grease Spot Remover. To use the rust remover simply apply the gel-like product to the affected area, allow it to react with the stain (you’ll know it’s working when it turns deep purple!), wipe up the residue with a cloth, and rinse with clean water. The oil and grease remover works just as simply, all you have to do is spray and wipe!
If your client is a wine, coffee, or tea drinker, it may be a wise idea to point them towards the FilaSR95 Stain Remover. This stone care product helps to remove organic stains from natural stone and porcelain tile, making it incredibly useful in the kitchen!
So long as your client listens to your cleaning suggestions and maintains a steady cleaning routing, their tile will last them for years to come.
